New Mexico Unemployment Benefits

You should apply for New Mexico Unemployment Benefits as soon as you become unemployed or your hours are slashed.  Any delay in applications may cause you to lose cash that you are owed.  After you have applied, you will receive in the mail an information handbook with all the answers to your benefits-related questions, a determination of benefit account demonstrating what your weekly benefit payments will be and your total amount of benefits, a password notification letter, and instructions on how to request benefit payments.  If you quit your job, was fired from it, or lost it in any way other than a layoff, both you and your employer will be asked for further information about why you stopped working, and a decision will be made after that evidence has come in.  The weekly amount of benefits you will be eligible for will be about half your average weekly wage, up to a state maximum, which is currently $566.00.  You will need to provide further information in order to make a request for a benefit payment on a weekly basis, either by phone or online.  You will be required to report any income you earn and to indicate if you are still unemployed and seeking work.
